We made it out to the grounds today with picture perfect weather and a light crowd of hopeful anglers. Bounced around some wrecks and didn’t find much, but finally found a pick of decent keeper codfish on our final stop for the day. No crazy bite but a drastic improvement from what we’ve been finding on previous trips. Some solid fish with the biggest around 15 lbs.

We were happy to get back on the cod grounds today after taking a few days off for the holiday. We tried several areas over the course of the day, hoping to dial in on some brown bombers. We had good action on most drops, with the usual assortment of cold water bottom dwellers. We had the best showing of cod we’ve seen this winter, unfortunately they were primarily of the sub-legal variety. Chipped away throughout the day with a few keepers here and there. Towards the end of the day the wind dropped out and gave us some optimal drift conditions. We finished the day with a nice pick of codfish seabass and a handful of haddock. Definitely looked encouraging for the weeks to come, especially after a stretch of slow fishing. Tomorrow and Saturday we will not be sailing due to the weather, but Sunday is looking like a go at the moment. Please call Capt Andy at 4017886012 to confirm we are sailing if you are planning on coming down.

Sunday’s blackfish trip was decent, with over half a boat limit of tog up to 7 lbs. Since the blackfish still seem to be around in decent numbers and the cod bite seems sub-par at best, we are going to continue targeting blackfish for another week. This week we will be doing blackfish/cod/seabass combo trips, basically targeting whatever seems to be biting best on the grounds. We are planning on sailing this week Wednesday through Sunday, and will still be sailing at 6 AM. Please call Jeanie to make your reservations.

Big improvement today on the blackfishing grounds today. It was looking like the curtains were closing on the tog fishing but today made us think otherwise. Plenty of quality keepers throughout the day with the biggest around 8 lbs. Most anglers had their limit and everyone had at least a few. Tomorrow will be our last blackfish trip of the season and the weather is looking great.

Today’s trip saw no shortage of action on the blackfish grounds. Unfortunately, the short tog fat outnumbered the keepers, and anglers had to weed through numerous shorts in order to find a fish of legal size. Countless fish just under the 16” minimum size had to be released. Still an action packed day, and we will be back at t tomorrow. Please note that we are booked for a charter this Friday, the 7th, and will be sailing Saturday and Sunday for our last two blackfish trips of the season. After Sunday we will be targeting cod, haddock and seabass, sailing Wednesday through sundays from 6am-4pm.
