Todays blackfish trip was not quite as hot and heavy as yesterday, but still quite good. It was a classic case of the haves and have-nots. Some anglers fared very well, while others struggled to dial in to the bite. By day’s end we were very close to our boat limit, but not quite there. High hook had 12 keepers (ORL) and everyone had at least one or two in the box.
10/25/18 Blackfish Kickoff
Our blackfish season started with a bang today! A light crowd of anglers were treated to very steady fishing throughout the entire trip. The fish were chewing on every drop and we ended the day with a full boat limit of blackfish with the biggest being around 7 lbs. High hook had over 20 keepers (ORL.)
10/23/18 SCHEDULE UPDATE
We will officially be switching over to Blackfishing on Thursday 10/26. The boat will be sailing Wednesday-Sunday at 6 AM. Fishing is picking up in a big way and we’re looking forward to getting started togging on the big boat. We had a charter on the Jeanie B today and it was one stop shopping, full boat limit and back to the dock early. Please call ahead or reserve online if you’re interested in getting in on the action!
10/7/18
Fishing has been top notch for the last 3 trips in a row. Every trip was treated to an all you can eat buffet of jumbo porgies, with plenty of fine quality seabass in the mix. Limits have been easily attainable for both species. Once again, we are sailing for porgies/seabass Wednesday through Sunday right now. Weather looks great for Wednesday, but the rest of the week looks questionable for the time being. Please be sure to call before you head down to make sure the boat is sailing.
9/30/18
Fishing was excellent both days this weekend. Both trips Had nonstop actio on some jumbo porgies, with plenty of quality silver snappers in the 2-3 lb range. Double headers were the norm and those who targeted them all day had easy limits. Plenty of seabass to be had as well, but those fishing diamond jigs and crippled herrings fared better on both size and numbers. Those working jigs also had some awesome bonus catches, which included striped bass, huge bluefish and even a few false albacore. You never know what you’re gonna get on these trips! Next scheduled trip is for Wednesday and he weather is looking great all week.
9/23/18
Unlike yesterday,we were treated to beautiful weather on the porgygrounds today. The fishing wasn’t hot and heavy, but we had consistent action all trip. The highlight of today’s trip was the variety of fish caught. Besides jumbo porgies and seabass, we had 10 keeper cod, a few nice pollock, several nice winter flounder and plenty of jumbo choggies aka ocean perch. All in all it was a solid day of mixed bag fishing.
We have had some issues over the last few trips regarding customers trying to take undersized fish. We would like to make it very clear that, as tempting as it may be for some, we are very adamant about staying within the confines of RI fisheries regulations. Keep in mind that the mates can and will go through coolers and discard any undersized fish that may have been harvested.
Weather is not looking optimal for the next few days. The next scheduled trip is on Wednesday, but please call beforehand as the weather may not allow us to sail.
9/20/18
Good fishing for today’s crew on the porgy grounds. A nice light crowd was treated to nonstop action throughout the entire trip. Plenty of jumbo porgies flying over the rails all day. A tremendous amount of short seabass were a bit of a nuisance, but there were enough keepers in the mix to keep it interesting, and several anglers had their seabass limits. Saturday’s trip is SOLD OUT, but there is plenty of room on Sunday. Please be sure to call ahead.
Also, there seems To be quite a bit of confusion regarding this seasons seabass regulations. This year, there is NO FEDERAL CLOSURE on seabass, and we are allowed 7 fish per person through the end of the year.
